Nation Ablaze: Progress Log 1

I'm still working on the netcode. It's hard coming up with a smooth system that doesn't present a lot of jerkiness or lag. Right now I'm switching over to an interpolation system and seeing how that works.

I had a problem for 3 hours or so where the game would lock up, but not be locked up at the same time. The window would be frozen, but the player would still turn to look at the mouse. (I could tell due to the direction packets still being sent) I eventually figured out that it was a problem with the netcode, I was sending doubles client-side but reading them as shorts server-side. Oops.

I hope to get the movement netcode done today. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for Dave, Andy, David, and Leo for testing.

Project Log

It has been a productive weekend on the contest entry.  I haven't decided on the game name yet.

The game is going to be a Worms-esque side scrolling artillery game, except winter themed.  For instance, snowballs would be a weapon you can use, or for devastating power, an exploding snowman.  The game will have heavy RPG elements, such as levelling, equipment, and inventories.  The gameplay will mostly take place online, where your stats will be tracked, and there will be a server list.

What I have gotten done so far:

- Fluid limb system (fluid animations and interchangeable limbs)
- Motion blur
- Basic projectile launching system
- Movement system
- Wind and its effect on projectiles
- Ds has created some menu music for me
- Basic graphics

Game Making Competition!

I entered the $1000 game making competition (winter themed)
We have 45 days...  I'll post screens as I make progress :)

Tschuss Germany

Bye Germany and Germanylanders...

I must depart back to the "motherland" and live the rest of my high school life in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

I won't have my computer until September but I'll be on Myspace a lot...

What have I learned in Germany?

- To see the truth through layers of deception
- To set your expectations very low
- People lie a lot

What have I accomplished in Germany?

- Went to depression counseling

Besides that I didn't accomplish ANY goals which sucks but oh well...

Overall Germany was awesome but Patch and the people at Patch were not... But you gotta take the good with the bad...
I'll miss Germany and it's yummy candy but I won't miss most of the people I met.

Ciao...
Thomas
